TRAMPING REPORT - OCTOBER
Prepared by Sue Clelland
I attended the Aorangi Huts Meeting on Monday to consider the future purpose of the committee. It was decided to continue as is even though DoC is now responsible for all routine maintenance on huts.
Other items from the meeting were:
Roaring Stag Hut now open and being used at a steady rate.
Elder hut to be started as soon as the weather improves and the chopper can
get in.
South Ohau Hut replacement in estimates for 2007.
All eastern side huts should be up to scratch by end of summer.
New toilets at Kime will have tanks to be taken out by chopper.
New deck at Te Matawai Hut.
YTYY track to have work done on it.
New toilet and shelter on Kapiti Island.
North Ohau hut has been removed and work is starting on new one.
Maungahuka Hut will be closed after Christmas and new hut built on same site.
A new LWTC trip calendar has been created and is on the web-site and in the newsletter. It includes 2 weeks in January at Ruapehu Lodge. I hope to stay from 3rd January.
