Levin-Waiopehu Hut - Mt Ruapehu | Google Maps
Mt Ruapehu's Homely Home - a comfortable lodge just 5 minutes walk from the carpark at the Top of the Bruce and is the perfect place to spend time on the mountain. Waiopehu Hut | Google Maps
Located in the Tararua Ranges, this DOC hut is approximately 4-5 hours walk from the carpark. A reasonable amount of fitness is required. Climbing through forest and cloud, the walker is sometimes rewarded with snow as the track levels out near the lodge.
The Lodge has no power or heating, but is comfortable, sleeping 18 persons.
Waking to a view across the Manawatu and Levin, the walk is well worth the effort. On a clear day, views to the centre of the Island are plentiful.
